Manufacture of a suspension brace
writing by August 27 2004 modified the 09/28/04.
I launched out in the reproduction of a missing suspension brace, on an stainless steel pocket Omega
Ideal to change the ideas, but that it 's hard steel !
Raw material:
a threaded rod stainless.
Used tools:
- the blowtorch of the neighbor (ferronier)
- files of watchmaker (of good quality)
- sandpaper of various sizes
- paste to be polished
- Patience (much)
Some pics:
The threaded rod was ground, to remove the nets and to give him a square form.
The round-off was made by forming the part with the hammer, after to be heated with the red...
... then the shape of the suspension brace is outlined with the file.
Two holes of 1mm of diameter are bored on both sides with a drill press, they will receive the two axes of the suspension brace.
The axis is in fact stainless wire of 1mm coming from a dental prothesist.
An axis was set up, the other will be introduced in force when the suspension brace will be assembled on the watch.
Result after much of hand filing, sandpapering and polishing.
After polishing, the axes are levelling and hardly visible without a magnifying glass
The original form was found on an old catalogue.
A few last hours devoted to the passion of watches, without spending much of money, and on arrival as much of satisfaction than after the purchase of a new watch.
