Seamaster Chronograph

Omega watches

I bought this watch during a small voyage to Paris at the market of Vanves in 1991. Its state was correct, only glass required a replacement, because it was cracked.

I thus ordered a new glass with the reference of the box (176.007). Glass is delivered with a ring steel without graduation, it is thus appropriate to re-use the original ring with the tachometer. There is no
particular difficulty for the installation. The only constraint compared to standard ringed glass is well to fix the tachometer with the index at 12.

Used tools:

In theory, I use only this tool for the not ringed plexis which are rather flexible. However I from time to time employ it for a ringed plexi which is not too strongly replaced in the notch of the glasses.

Glass is posed on a special support (not photographed). One rather vigorously catches then the plexi while turning the serrated roller what causes to decrease its diameter a little. New glass is then placed in the notch of the case or the glasses of the watch. One unscrews, and it is posed! In practice I largely prefer another tool much less traumatisant for the plexi.

In my case, it is about a press ROBUR, (photograph below), of which here an extract of the instructions:

"To choose in the set the cleats being appropriate for the diameter of glass to be posed... To place the hollow cleat at the higher and mobile part of the press, the cleat felted with the lower part. To pose glass: To pass the glasses in the felted cleat, put glass on the felt, descend the hollow cleat, camber glass in order to insert it in the notch of the glasses ".

To loosen, using the wheel, by maintaining the glasses horizontally.

Never not to make excessive pressure, particularly with the installation of thick glass (Geneva, seals...)"

My Robur press, was found by a friend in a store at a moderate price (large a thank you with him)

Back to the watch.

The shape of the case (barrel) today is typified enough the Seventies, but not disgracieuse, as it is sometimes the case at that time.

The movement:

Once more faithful to the movements from Lemania, Omega adopts this pretty automatic calibre which becomes the 1040.

The movement was dismounted and serviced, the only part that I changed is the ball bearing of the rotor which presented a considerable wear.

Functions:

The calibre 1040 is equipped with date (quick setting).

The stopwatch part includes a meter of the minutes on a central hand,

a meter of the hours placed at six hours,

and an indicator of the hours on 24 h. located under the small second hand (black disc).

Since 12 years now that I have this chronograph, it always forms part of my watches the most carried, undoubtedly because of its robustness and of its easiness to use,and i like  its aspect a little typified 70.
